General Info –
Big Brothers and Big Sisters is a mentoring program established for some of our high school students to be counselors at the Junior Week of Camp Koinonia for pre-teen and junior high students. This program has brought incredible leadership training and preparation to our high school students, and has greatly impacted our younger campers.
We can only accept a limited number of students to participate as Big Brothers and Big Sisters. We will consider all applications, but please understand that we are looking for the best role models and Christ-like examples for our junior campers.
Roles & Responsibilities –
- Mentor for 5 to 8 campers in 5th – 8th grade.
- Pray for and love on junior high campers all week.
- Assist the cabin counselors with cabin relationships, cabin time and cabin cleanup.
- Journey Group leader for your group of 5th and 6th grade students.
- Games coordinators or team coaches.
- General help to make Camp Koinonia run effectively for pre-teen and teen campers.
- Have regular meeting times in preparation for Camp K, and throughout the week of camp with the Big Brother and Big Sister team.
This is Serious Service –
You should know before applying for the Big Brother and Big Sister program that it is a week of hard, tiring, stressful, draining and exhausting service to the junior campers. It is not a week of vacation or an additional week of Camp Koinonia for our mentors; it is much more like a mission trip. It requires maturity and selflessness on the part of all Big Brothers and Big Sisters to put the pre-teen and junior high students’ needs and wants before your own. Please be sure to pray about this commitment and service, as well as talk it over with your parents and mentors. This is a fantastic program for all campers (junior high and high school students alike) but it takes a sacrificing person to give of themselves so completely. We look forward to another GREAT year of ministry together.
