The Bigs

Big Brothers and Big Sisters, or "The Bigs", is a mentoring program enabling high school students to serve as group leaders during Junior Week. This program has brought incredible leadership training and preparation to our high school students and has greatly impacted our younger campers.

We can only accept a limited number of students to participate as Big Brothers and Big Sisters. We will consider all applications, but please understand that we are looking for the best role models and Christ-like examples for our junior campers.

I might be a great Big if...

  • I am active in my youth group.
  • I am spiritually mature.
  • I have exemplary character qualities.
  • I have a positive attitude.
  • I have a good work ethic.
  • I love to hang out with Middle School kids.
  • I am able to attend Training Day on June 6.

If this describes you, then you may just be what we are looking for!

Roles & Responsibilities

    • Mentor 8-10 campers in 5th – 8th grade.
    • Pray for and love on junior high campers all week.
    • Assist the cabin counselors with cabin relationships, cabin time and cabin cleanup.
    • Serve as a Journey Group leader for your group of students.
    • Serve as Games coordinators or coaches.
    • Be a general help to make Camp Koinonia run effectively for pre-teen and teen campers.
    • Have regular meeting times in preparation for Camp K, and throughout the week of camp with the Big Brother and Big Sister team.

This is Serious Service

You should know before applying to be a Big Brother/Big Sister program that it can be a tough, draining, yet rewarding week of service to the junior campers. It is not a week of vacation; it is much more like a mission trip. It requires maturity and selflessness on the part of all Big Brothers/Big Sisters to put the pre-teen and junior high students’ needs and wants before your own. Please be sure to pray about this commitment and service, as well as talk it over with your parents and mentors. We look forward to another GREAT year of ministry together.
